Blacky has an audience.

The cows see cats everyday of their lives but each time the cats are around them, the cows act like they are from another planet and about to take out their cud.

I throw cubes of feed on the ground for the cows and when the cats see that the cows are eating something, they have to check it out. Just in case the cubes are something good.

What I didn't take a picture of was the other cats that were standing/sitting next to me while I was taking this picture. They were acting like, "Hey, Blacky! You better get on this side of the fence. That long eared one in the middle looks vicious." There were only a couple of cats that ventured as close as Blacky.

The next time I feed the cubes, I'll make sure and get a shot of how the cats go after the cubes in between the cows feet. It's nerve racking to watch but thankfully no one has been hurt.

Steeler season has begun. As of Sept 7th, at 7:30pm.

This is Mike's new 8.5 foot Steeler flag. He is so proud to hear that flag flapping in the breeze.

Steelers won their first game against Miami. Even without poor, surgery-prone Ben. Hopefully his bad luck cloud will blow far away from him soon, if not already.

Check back after each Steeler game to see Steeler Mike game photos. This season should be eventful just like the last 20-something.

Go Steelers!!

The hot, dry Texas summer is just too much. We have been pumping water out of a well for the cows for a month or so.

As you can see in the picture, there isn't any grass left. Not even the dry, crunchy kind we had for a while.

The cracks in the ground are huge. We have to be careful to not twist an ankle while out in the pastures.

The light tan cow on the left is looking at Bruiser. I filled a bucket of water for him to drink from since he can't get in the water trough. He loves swimming in the tanks but they are all dried up now.

We have tanks that have never been dried up before in all of my dad's 71 years of life. I hate to think of all the fish that have also dried up in this heat. For awhile there were a lot of white cranes hanging out in the tanks when the water level was very low. Maybe they ate the fish so the fish didn't suffer much. What do you do with the worse of two evils!!

There is a chance of rain in the forecast for Sunday. We have fingers crossed for a lot of precipitation. At least the 100 degree temps are gone. The early mornings in the low 60s is refreshing.

With the first day of Autumn coming this month, I'm ready for the cooler weather and shorter days.

Mike reminds me that at the end of winter when spring peeks in, I am always ready for warmer weather and longer days.

I just love the change of seasons!!

This morning while I was sitting on the back porch quietly reading a book and drinking a cup of coffee, I realized I was in the middle of rush hour traffic.

First, Bruiser, the Boxer, came around the house and laid his chin on my thigh for a few rubs. A couple of cats came with him. Then about five guineas came around the corner but they were busy pecking for grasshoppers or whatever else in the grass. Several kittens were following them trying to get close enough to smell them. The guineas didn't pay them any mind.

Then the ten or so hummingbirds began their morning ritual of buzzing around the feeders and arguing over who gets which one.

Wow! It's rush hour traffic in the country. The best kind if you ask me.
